• Crypto network Solana is opening a new office in downtown Manhattan, New York.
• The news is odd because several brick-and-mortar Solana themed locations and stores have just shut down in the area.
• New York has proven to be quite anti-crypto over the past few years, but Solana still chose to open an office there.
Solana Opens Office in Downtown Manhattan
Crypto network Solana is opening a new office in downtown Manhattan, New York. The office will occupy roughly 25,000 square feet in a multiple-story building. This news is odd for several reasons as several brick-and-mortar Solana-themed locations and stores in both New York and Miami have recently shut down, suggesting that the area hasn’t offered such an interest for this digital currency.
New York’s Anti-Crypto Attitude
New York has proven to be quite anti-crypto over the past few years with its crypto moratorium preventing any new digital currency mining companies from stepping in and setting up quarters within the state’s borders. Furthermore, Leticia James – New York’s present Attorney General – has sued several institutions from Celsius to Ku Coin to Coin Ex due her attempt of preventing any kind of fraud or corruption within the digital currency industry by introducing restrictive bills such as the BitLicense .
Solana Despite NY’s Anti Crypto Attitude
Nevertheless, it appears – for now at least – like New York City is where Solana decided to set up shop and establish its new office. A spokesperson for the company explained that 75 percent of their space will be reserved for “Solana ecosystem teams to co-work for free upon approval” thus allowing entrepreneurs more opportunities to work with each other while creating a better environment despite its anti crypto attitude within the state of New York.
NYCEDC President Supports Decision
The president and CEO of NYCEDC (New York City Economic Development Corporation) Andrew Kimball threw his two cents into the decision by saying: “Our goal at NYCEDC is always to ensure our city remains competitive when it comes to attracting businesses from every sector — tech included — so we are thrilled that this innovative blockchain company has chosen our city as their headquarters… We look forward to seeing how this company grows with us here in NYC!”
Conclusion
It seems like despite all odds, Solana still chose to open an office in downtown Manhattan with its upcoming move being supported by various entities including NYCEDC President Andrew Kimball who believes that this move will help keep New York City competitive when it comes to attracting different types of businesses from all sectors including tech which he believes can only benefit their city even further.
